Foreshadowing the upcoming release of their debut CD, Sacred Confinement has released a four song demo on cassette that bodes well for their future success. With their roots in a New Jersey band called New Found Dreams, their focus and vision is firmly grounded in the raw aggression of Pete Bovadikov's inspiration. Joined by NFD guitarist, Peter Black, Pete Bovadikov, vocalist, guitarist, and otherwise all-round instrument manipulator gathered the support of James Nargiso for drums and electronic noise and Jeff Dolak for keys.
Each of the four songs on this demo is crystalline and razor-edged, biting out to the world with concrete angst. Siouxsie, the first track, starts out with pulsing percussive sound and swelling synths leading toward an enervating techno/industrial core that dives and resurfaces throughout the song amidst the original pulse and swell. Pete's vocals are breathy and echo along against this backdrop, fuelled by the recurring grind of guitar. The second cut, Truth, is by stark contrast more low-key, with Pete's vocals layered over atmospheric keys...until it kicks in with a relentless and striking guitar hook, setting up for the retreat and advance of the utter angst one would expect from Tool. Wall sweeps in with noise, roaring chords and an omnipresent repetitive synth-beat and Pete plies a new attack, with more throaty and gutteral vocals, spitting forth his dare to "tear down his wall," all together creating a monumental piece with a regal tone and cadence. The demo wraps up with Can't Take Any More, a definite strong note, as its pace and aggression leave one hungering for more of a sound that, as a whole, is truly unique to Sacred Confinement.
